Jamia to celebrate International Yoga Day

 

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will be celebrating International Yoga Day on June 21. Several Yoga sessions will be organized to mark the international event. The event will be attended by Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI and other senior functionaries of the university.

The first Yoga session of the International Yoga Day will be held at University Sports Complex from 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. where over 700 NCC Cadets from School and University sectors of JMI and from other academic institutions will perform Yoga under the supervision of highly trained instructors. Another session is to be held at New Girls Hostel for the residents of Hall of Residence (Girls) from 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. The girls will be doing Yoga under the supervision of a Yoga Guru which would be followed by a similar exercise at Hall of Residence (Boys) Campus “B” from 08.00 a.m. to 09.00 a.m.

For the second edition of the International Yoga Day at JMI, the Outreach Programme, JMI has taken an initiative to bring people from disadvantaged sections of the society living in the neighbourhood on board. A special Yoga Session has been organized for the underprivileged children at Gymnasium Centre of the University Sports Complex from 09.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. The Outreach Programme in collaboration with Games and Sports Office, JMI has tied up with NGOs in this regard.

The students, teachers and staff have evinced keen interest in the International Yoga Day and are likely to participate in the event with great enthusiasm. JMI has organized a series of practice sessions for all the stakeholders in the run up to the International Yoga Day.

It may be recalled that JMI celebrated the first International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015 with great fervor.
